The 360 S3D camera uses 3 fisheye lenses to shoot movies that are S3D all around a dome, except at the zenith where S3D is undefined. S3D refers to stereoscopic content that allows binocular depth perception. The spectator plays an active role by choosing where to look at in a dome or by using a virtual reality headset such as the OculusRift.
An image stitching method based on epipolar geometry minimizes misalignments due to parallax to produce an S3D dome video from the 3 input videos. No depth analysis of the scene is necessary as scene points along the epipolar lines align perfectly horizontally. See this [PDF] for more details.
With appropriate 3D glasses or a VR headset, these movies allow the perception of scene depths all around the spectators. Action occurs simultaneously on several sides of the screen, the multidirectional sound draws the attention of the spectator.
